Ama is a type foundry dedicated to Arabic script. We design custom typefaces, publish fonts, and share knowledge to help people create designs that are contemporary, authentic, and powerful. At Ama, we see type as a vehicle for cultural growth.

Why we do it

Ama is the life project of Arabic type designer Lara Captan, who envisions an Arabic type landscape that's more experimental, deeply researched, and beautifully crafted.

She draws from the graphic legacy of the Arabic script while encouraging new generations of designers to expand, question, and reinvent it. She embraces both precision and imperfection, believing each has its place.

Ama is named after Lara's mother Amale, honoring continuity, forward-thinking Arab women, and the foundry's human values of building warm, inspiring, and lasting connections.
